The CD represents the widely diverse cultural, ethnic, and stylistic artist base in Long Beach.
It features a beautiful version Silent Night sung in English, Spanish, and Hawaiian; a
moving, original, three-voice arrangement of What Child Is This, also in Spanish; a jazzy 4-part acapella
rendition of Oh Holy Night; a pensive and heart-felt performance of Christmas Time Is Here; a sweetly sophisticated
take on Silver Bells; and even an instrumental version of Silent Night performed on Dobro, a resonator guitar.
The original songs are just as interesting. With wonderful vocal harmonies on Holiday Days, performed by The Dibs,
the song wonders why we can't be more kind to each other all year long. Introspective, immediate, and heartfelt are
three words that describe the Jazz instrumental Hymn for St. John of Shanghai, performed by Create(!). How Fortunate
We Are, by Sander Roscoe Wolff, reminds us that friendship is more precious than any gift. Johnny Jones & The Suffering
Halos delve deep into the quest for spiritual knowledge in a profoundly personal way in the song, Is Your Star To Shine
So Bright.
