CREATIVITY NETWORK UPDATE:

April 10, 2006

It was another energy-filled evening at Utopia Restaurant last Monday evening. A good crowd of 15 people showed up for more than wine and food. Getting them out of there was the challenge. Cultural exchanges, information exchanges and networking were among the topics thrown out.

Of course, it always seems to get back around to the need for voices. Loud voices. Advocacy. Lobbying. Having friends in high places.

CAN YOU SAY ACTION PLAN?

All these issues and more are on the table when it comes to the Strategic Cultural Plan for Long Beach. We’ve had two in the last ten years; one in 1996 and the other issued in 2001. Now the Arts Council for Long Beach has embarked on an effort to update both those plans.

The Creativity Network’s contributions began with the Creativity Survey distributed last month and on line now at LongBeachCulture.Org. Great feedback. Thanks to everyone who’s contributed to the survey. Keep it coming.

And speaking of LongBeachCulture.Org. Check out their blog at: blog.longbeachculture.org
Comment on the questions posed there. We’ll integrate some of those answers into the Creativity Survey as well. Don’t forget to check out all the listed events on the website.

SO WHAT’S NEXT

Okay, what’s next? We’re looking to move the Creativity Salons around to different venues to give more people a chance to participate and as a marketing opportunity for galleries and performance spaces. And it would be kind of cool for more people to experience what’s around town. More news on that coming.

Special thanks have to go to Kamran and Amir at Utopia Restaurant and all the staff for their hospitality and service.
